There are two kinds of styles in MapInfo Pro. Global styles are set in the Style Preferences dialog box and persist every time you open MapInfo Pro. Session Styles are styles you create during an edit session and only exist for that session. Session styles apply regardless of the table being edited. This feature allows you to define a table-based insert style that can be used to add features to an editable table. The style information is saved as metadata in the table record and so persists beyond the session.

To insert a table-based style:

  1. On the HOME tab, in the File group, click Open, and Table.
  2. In the Open dialog box, from the Preferred View list, select New Mapper, and click Open.
  3. On the Explorer window, on the Maps panel, highlight the layer name of the table you just opened and then click the Editable icon to make the layer editable.
  4. Double-click the layer's Style Override swatch to open the style dialog box.

If the layer contains more than one type of object, such as regions and symbols, then it will have more than one Style Override swatch in the Maps list. Click the Style Override swatch for the type of object you want to customize.

  5. Click OK to save your style settings to the table.

To see this "persistent" quality of the insert style command, save the Map window and close MapInfo Pro. Then start MapInfo Pro again and display the map again.
