Smart Text is a map adornment that displays a configurable text label over a map. This text could be a simple text expression or you can use a MapBasic expression to evaluate a value and display it as text on a map.
Adding a Smart Text Adornment to the Map
You must have your map open to add a smart text to it.
To add a smart text to your map:
- On the Map tab, in the Content group, click Add to Map, and click Smart Text Adornment from the list to open the Smart Text dialog box.
- In the Smart Text text-box, either enter a simple text expression or a MapBasic expression to evaluate a value and display it as text on the map.
- From the Position drop-down. select how to position the smart text on the map from the available options.
- Select the Border check-box if you want the smart text to have a border.
- Click the Font button to open the Text Style dialog box. Select you text style options such as type, size, color, and effects for the smart text and click OK.
- Click OK to add the smart text adornment to the map.
The smart text adornment displays on top of the cosmetic layer of the map. It remains in the same position even when panning or zooming the map.
Removing a Smart Text Adornment
To remove a smart text adornment from the Map window:
- Right-click on the smart text adornment.
- From the pop-up menu, select Remove.
Save the workspace to save this change to the map.
Changing the Smart Text Adornment Properties
To change smart text adornment properties either:
- Double-click the smart text adornment.
- Right-click on the smart text adornment and from the pop-up menu, select Properties.
