Use this dialog box to set how symbols display on a layout.
Symbol Set
Scroll through this drop-down list to locate a symbol set and then select the symbol you want to display.
Add
This button displays after selecting Custom Symbols from the Symbol Set list. Click to use your own custom symbol set file by loading it into the \CUSTSYMB directory. After adding your custom symbol file, it displays within the Symbol Set list for use the next time you edit symbols.
Recently used symbols
Shows up to 18 of the recently used symbols selected from the Symbol Set.
Character Code
Shows the unique value for the symbol you selected from the Symbol Set. Entering a value displays its corresponding symbol from the selected Symbol Set (nothing happens if you enter an incorrect value).
Size
Either select the size of the symbol font from this drop-down list or enter a size.
Symbol Color
Symbol Effects
These options can enhance the look of your symbol on the map. Not all options are available for every symbol font. The following options display for True Type fonts:
- None - Displays no background for the selected symbol.
- Halo - Displays a halo in the background of the selected symbol.
- Border - Displays a black border around the selected symbol.
- Drop Shadow - Displays a black drop shadow below the selected symbol.
- Bold - Displays the selected symbol in bold face.
The following options display for Custom Symbols:
- Show Background - Displays the custom symbol using the background color that the symbol was created with.
- Apply Color - Replaces all non-white pixels with a color that you choose from the color palette.
- Display at actual Size - Shows the custom symbol at its actual size.
Symbol Rotation
Enter the value in degrees that you want to rotate the symbol on the layout. A value of 360 is a full rotation, a positive value rotates the symbol in a counter-clockwise direction, and a negative value rotates it in a clockwise direction.
Preview
This shows how the symbol will display on the layout.
