The Buffer Objects dialog box allows you to specify and create a buffer for a region.

Radius

The buffer radius is the distance between the object (or objects) and the border of the buffer polygon.

Value

Enter a number for the buffer radius in coordination with the desired units.

From Column

Use the From Column drop-down list to specify a column or choose Expression to create an expression. The buffer radius can be determined from a table value or by an expression.

Units

The following units are available: link, rod, chain, inch, foot, yard, mile, millimeter, centimeter, meter, kilometer. The default unit is the distance unit for the Map window.

Smoothness - segments per circle

The smoothness determines the resolution of the curves in the buffer polygon. The default value is 12 segments per circle. More segments produce a smoother curve; fewer segments make a more jagged curve.

One buffer of all objects

Creates one buffer for all objects.

For example, if you are buffering Pennsylvania, New York, and New Hampshire, one buffer is created for all three of these objects.

Note: This option also determines the aggregation method available in the Data Aggregation Dialog Box. If One buffer of all objects is selected, the operation performed is a buffer and a combine operation in the Data Aggregation dialog box. Sum and Average buttons are grayed out unless the column selected is a numeric column. The Weight by button is grayed out until the Average radio button is selected.

One buffer for each object

Creates one buffer for each object.

For example, if you are buffering Pennsylvania, New York, and New Hampshire, each object has a separate buffer.

Note: Also determines the aggregation method available in the Data Aggregation dialog box. If the One buffer for each object is selected, then each object is buffered individually, and no combine is performed. The default aggregation for all columns, both numeric and non-numeric, is Value. The Data Aggregation dialog box contains a Blank and Value radio button for the aggregation method.

Buffer Width Distance using

MapInfo Pro uses Spherical where possible and Cartesian otherwise.

Spherical

Spherical calculations are used for distance methods and take into account the curvature of the Earth. The data is first converted to Latitude/Longitude and then a calculation is produced.

Note: Non-Earth data cannot use Spherical calculations, since the data cannot be converted to Latitude/Longitude.

Cartesian

Cartesian methods are used to perform calculations on Non-Earth data (in two dimensional space). Cartesian coordinates are a pair of numbers, (x, y), defining the position of a point in a two-dimensional space by its perpendicular projection onto two axes which are at right angles to each other.

Note: Cartesian calculations cannot be used for Latitude/Longitude data, which is not a flat projection.

Next

If your TAB file has attribute data (browser data) then you get the Next button. Click the Next button to display the Data Aggregation dialog box.

OK

If your data is just a mapper (no data) then the button is an OK.
