In MapInfo Pro custom symbols can virtually unlimited file size, can have a maximum color depth of 24-bit color, maximum symbol point size to 240 points and maximum label offset to 200 points (to support large custom symbols in maps and legends). Additionally bitmaps can be rectangular as well as squares and you can create up to 32,767 symbols.
All custom symbols are saved in a CUSTSYMB directory which is maintained by MapInfo Pro. Using the Adding User-Defined Custom Symbols instructions, you can save your own bitmaps to this directory.
