The commands in the Style group on the LAYOUT tab control how text looks on a layout. These commands set the text font, size, color, and effects. These effects may be applied to text within a text frame on a Layout window.

The first row of options set the font type and size:

  • Font Family – Select a typeface from the drop-down list to change the display of your text. This list is populated with the typeface available on your machine in the Fonts folder.
  • Font Size – Select the height (in points) for your text from the drop-down list.
  • Increase Font Size – Click to increase the Font Size.
  • Decrease Font Size – Click to decrease the Font Size.

The second row of options set the font effects, which can be used in combination:

  • Bold – Apply a bold style to text.
  • Italics – Apply an italicized style to text.
  • Font Color – Select a color for the text from the drop-down list. Clicking More Colors from the list gives you more choices, including specifying RGB (Red Green Blue), HSV (Hue Saturation Value), and Hex (hexadecimal) color codes.
  • Left Align Text – Left-justify the text within a text frame.
  • Center Text – Center the text within a text frame.
  • Right Align Text – Right-justify the text within a text frame.
  • Line Spacing – Set the amount of space that displays between the lines of text within a text frame. You can select 1.0, 1.5, or 2.0.
Note: Style commands for changing how labels display in a Map window are located on the LABELS tab and are described under Label Style Group.
