What is the purpose of Combine Selected Objects?

To combine separate map objects into a single object. The Combine command also performs data aggregation, so that the new object's data columns contain sums or averages of the values from the original objects.

The Combine command works with objects that are selected. If you want to apply the Combine operation to an entire table, then on the Table menu click Combine Objects Using Column.

When is Combine Selected Objects active?

Combine Selected Objects is active when one of the following conditions exist:

  • There is currently no map editing target (for example, you did not click Set Target on the Objects menu).
  • Two or more objects are selected in the editable layer of the active Map window.
  • There is currently a map editing target that consists of exactly one object and,
  • One or more map objects are selected in any layer of the active Map window.

How do I access Combine Selected Objects?

On the SPATIAL tab, in the Edit group, click Combine, and click Combine Selected Objects from the list.
