The Region Statistics tool inspects the region(s) specified in an input vector file (MapInfo TAB file) against a set of input raster file(s).
You can inspect a raster file underlying the defined region(s) in the input MapInfo TAB file and calculate the selected statistical values. The output is a MapInfo TAB file containing the columns with the calculated statistical values. This output file contains geometry objects from the input file and has the statistics against the respective column(s). The statistics will be computed on input raster's first field and first band only.
The Region Statistics tool processes only the regions. If input file contains any geometry other than region those objects will be copied in output TAB file and values against those columns will have invalid values.
For example, on a population density raster file, you can define a region and calculate various statistics such as maximum, minimum, standard deviation, etc. of the population density within a defined region.
You can retrieve the following statistics information of the region(s) in the output file.
- Minimum
- Maximum
- Average
- Median
- Coefficient of variation
- Range
- Cell count
- Standard deviation
- Null cell count
- Sum of cells
- % Null cells
- Mode
- Lower Quartile
- Upper Quartile
- Inner Quartile Range
