The Point Inspection tool provides information about cell value at each input point location from input raster.

If input file contains any geometry other than point those objects will be copied in output MapInfo TAB file, however, values written for those geometry will have invalid values.

To use the Point Inspection tool:

  1. On the RASTER tab, in the Operations group, click Raster Operations and then click the Point Inspect button to open the Point Inspection dialog box.
  2. Select an input raster from the Input File drop-down list or click to browse the raster file(s).

Consider a raster representing signal strength, as shown below:

  3. Select input point data from the Select Point Layer drop-down list or click to browse the MapInfo TAB file.

The following table displays the points and the table in the browser window.

The points MapInfo TAB file displays the points locations (Xcoord and Ycoord) and last recorded signal strength (Brssil1) at various locations on the raster.

  4. In the Output File box enter the name you want to specify for your output file. Click to browse to the location to save the output file. Click Output Settings and check Display Output File to display the output file after the operation is complete.
  5. Click the Process button to inspect cell value.

You will see the output in a browser window with a new column containing cell values from input raster for each point.

For the example above, the output MapInfo TAB file will contain a new column with values representing measured field strength for each point from the input raster. The fieldstrength column represents the new values.

Note: The new column name is derived from the input raster file name.
