The Line Statistics tool computes statistical attributes on the samples generated on input raster along the line or polyline. The sample points will be generated on intersected segment of line or polyline with the raster extents. The sample distance will be computed by values specified in the Number of Samples field. If the distance between two sample points is less than cell size of the raster, the sample points will be generated based on cell size. The statistics will be calculated on the values of the sample points from the raster.

For example, if you have a raster with elevation of a piece of terrain, and you wish to know the minimum , maximum and range of height along the line you can use this tool.

The Line Inspection attributes are as follows:

  • Minimum Value - The minimum sample cell value.
  • Maximum Value - The maximum sample cell value.
  • Mean Value - The sample mean value.
  • Range Value - The sample range value.
  • Start Value- The cell value at the starting point of line or polyline.
  • Middle Value - The cell value at the middle point of line or polyline.
  • End Value - The cell value at the end point of the line or polyline.

If Start, Middle or End point falls outside the raster extent MapInfo Pro Advanced will write Off Raster for them in the output file.
