Using the Color Stretch tool, you can enhance the display of a raster grid by changing the grid's appearance through data stretches. It is a powerful tool to present data visually.

All display and color options for raster files are available in the Color tool. The display of any raster data in MapInfo Pro Advanced is achieved by assigning a range of color values to each grid cell based on the type of the raster, numeric or classified.

For a numeric raster, its header contains the information about the color inflection points and can be modified using the Color tool. When you open a raster file, the header information is read and the appropriate color profile is assigned to the file before eventually getting displayed in the map window.

Using this tool, you can:

  • Modify the display settings of a raster by changing the color tables, data transformation options, histogram, and color break table.
  • Load an existing color table.
  • Limit the range of coloring for linear, logarithmic, histogram equalized, and user defined methods.

You can also:

  • Clip and limit coloring range of a grid.
  • Apply histogram clips.
  • Apply linear clips.
  • Apply standard deviation clips.


All numeric raster files in MapInfo Pro Advanced are assigned a default color palette when they are first opened in MapInfo Pro Advanced. In a numeric raster file, color is assigned according to the range of the grid values. For example, a numeric raster may contain values from 0-1000, depending on the colors.

In addition to assigning color gradients to raster files, you can also apply stretches like linear stretching and histogram equalization for better contrast when the image is displayed.

You can also apply bandpass to the raster file for portions you do not want to be displayed or be transparent. You can specify the upper and lower cutoffs to display the raster file.
