To apply the Nearest Neighbor method:

  1. Click Create Raster in the Interpolate group to display the interpolation methods and select Nearest Neighbor Method. The Assignment dialog displays.
  2. Click Select Files to open the Input file panel. Click to browse and select one or more input data files. For more information, see Select Input File.
  3. Click the button to filter your input data. For more information on filter see, Filtering Input Data for Interpolation.
  4. From the Group by drop-down list, select one or more columns to group your output data. Grouping enables you to group data by data types in the selected column.
  5. Select Nearest Neighbor method from the Select Method drop-down list. The options specific to the selected method display. Specify the required parameters. For more information on methods, refer to Nearest Neighbor Method Options.
  6. In the Raster Geometry section, specify the cell size and raster bounds for the output raster. For more information, see Defining Raster Geometry.
    1. If required, click More Options to specify category and sub-category of the output projection. If the input file is MapInfo .TAB, projection values are read from the input file, which you can override here.
      • Category - The Category drop-down list consists of all projection systems supported by MapInfo Pro. For example, Longitude/Latitude, Universal Transverse Mercator (ED 50), Universal Transverse Mercator (NAD 27 for Canada), etc.
      • Sub Category - The Sub Category drop-down list consists of the type of projection based on the selected projection system.
  7. In the Output File box enter the name you want to specify for your output file. Click to browse to the location in your computer to save the output file and select the required output file format.
    1. Click Output Settings to specify the following. The values in Output Settings are controlled by the Raster Preferences dialog; however, you can override those settings here.
      • Display Output File - Select the check-box, if you want to open the output file in the Map window on completion of the operation. You can configure to make this the default behavior from the Raster Preferences dialog.
      • Compression Settings - If the file format to be saved is an MRR or TIFF, the Compression Settings option will appear. The available options are listed below.
        • Data Balanced
        • Data Speed
        • Data Space
        • Advanced

          The Data Balanced allows you to achieve a balance between data speed and space. With the other two options Data Speed and Data Space, you can choose between speed or space. Choose Advanced option to set the advanced compression options such as compression method, level, and encoding type. For details, on Advanced option, see Compression Settings.

      • Compression- Select a suitable compression method and level for the data. For detailed information on compression, see Compression methods.
      • Encoding Type - Select a suitable Encoding Type for the data from the list. It enables you to compress the data when saving a raster to MRR format. Encoding Type is enabled only when the raster field type is Continuous and the compression method is lossless such as ZIP, LZMA or LZ4. For more information, see Encoding Type.
  8. Click Process to start the raster interpolation process. The task will then be added to the Task Manager where you can monitor the progress. On completion of the operation, if you have selected Display output file check-box in Output Settings, the output raster displays in the map window.
