In addition to using SMF User Exits to gather SMF data, Ironstream can be configured to select SMF records via the SMF real-time interface. The SMF real-time interface provides applications with a high-speed data feed with low system overhead, both in terms of CPU time and elapsed time; therefore, Precisely recommends using this method if your system is configured to access SMF log streams, but it is not required.

When enabled, INMEM resource names defined to SMF log streams are acquired dynamically. Ironstream will retrieve the names from SMF, ensure security access, ensure no duplicate SMF types are captured, connect to the INMEM resource, and retrieve records.

For more information, see “Manually Setting Ironstream Parameters” in the Ironstream Configuration and User’s Guide.
