Service mapping involves adding Configuration Items (CIs) to Service maps. These CIs can be any machine, component, or application associated with the business service. Service mapping enables service owners to perform the following:
Identify which of their business services are likely to be affected when an issue occurs on a CI in the business service.
See if their business services will be affected when a change is requested for any CIs in their services.
Drill down seamlessly from service maps into detailed asset information, providing a powerful integrated environment for resolving service issues and managing service changes.
Ironstream Service Mapping for IBM i provides the user with the capability to define a set of patterns that map the Ironstream discovered CIs to one or more Application Services.
Users will be able to create one or more sets of patterns in the ServiceNow app that will be used by the Ironstream service mapping process. This process takes the form of a mapping job inside ServiceNow that the users can run on demand or schedule to run when they want it to.
After the job has run, each Service Map will include the CIs that met the pattern conditions for the Service they are associated with. The user can drilldown into any of the CIs on the Service Map to display a view of the CIs above and below it in the CI hierarchy.
Users can create and change the rules at any time, but the CIs associated with Services will only be updated after the mapping job has run.
