A hurricane is a tropical cyclone with sustained winds of 74 miles per hour (65 knots) or greater, occurring in the North Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, Gulf of Mexico, or eastern Pacific Ocean. Hurricanes can strike anywhere along the eastern seaboard, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Hawaiian Islands.
