Note: You can disable or enable user-defined semantic types. Built-in semantic types cannot be disabled. You need to be an administrator to disable or enable semantic types.

To disable or enable a semantic type:

  1. In the navigation bar, click Semantic Types.

The Semantics Types page displays, along with the Information side panel.

  2. Ensure that the Semantic Types tab is selected.

Disabling semantic types

  1. Click the Optionsmenu button in the appropriate row of the semantic types grid, and select Disable.

The Disable Semantic Type dialog displays, stating that the semantic type will be disabled as of today, and will no longer be used to classify assets based on profiling data.

  2. Click Disable.

The semantic type is disabled and hidden from view on the Semantic Types tab grid.

  3. Check Show disabled semantic types, positioned above the Search and Filter fields, if you want to continue to display the disabled types.

The appropriate rows reappear and a disabled badge displays to the right of the appropriate rows.

A badge is also shown in the Information side panel next to the semantic name and on the individual semantic type page. Effective Dates in the General category are updated as appropriate.

An appropriate entry is made in the change log.

Note: Disabled semantic types cannot be edited.

Enabling semantic types

The enable option is only displayed if the semantic type is disabled.

  1. Click the Options menu button in the appropriate row of the semantic types grid, and select Enable.

The Enable Semantic Type dialog displays, stating that the semantic type will be enabled as of today, and will be used to classify assets when profiling data is added.

  2. Click Enable.

The semantic type is enabled and displayed on the Semantic Types tab grid.

An appropriate entry is made in the change log.

If a semantic type is disabled and enabled on the same day, the UI does not display that it has been disabled, however, the change log does show the details.

If it is disabled on one date and then enabled on another, or if a semantic type is disabled and enabled more than once on different dates, you can see the time periods when the semantic type was disabled.

Re-enabled types are included in any export, including any effective date ranges.
