To open the Diagrams page, navigate to the detail page of an asset and click the Diagrams tab.

There are three diagram types:

  • Lineage Diagram - Shows how your data moves and transforms between systems. This diagram type is selected by default when the asset being inspected is a Technical Asset. Lineage diagrams are created automatically when you create relationships between assets, see Impact and lineage diagrams.
  • Impact Diagram - Allows you to easily evaluate the impact that any change may have on related assets. This diagram type is selected by default when the asset being inspected is a Business Asset which does not contain relationships linked via a "Diagram" predicate functional type, or when the asset being inspected is a Business Asset which contains relationships linked via the "Diagram" predicate functional type but a process diagram does not currently exist for the asset being inspected. Impact diagrams are created automatically when you create relationships between assets, see Impact and lineage diagrams.
  • Process Diagram - Models the business processes of your organization with their corresponding data governance associations. This diagram type is selected by default when the asset being inspected is a Business Asset which contains relationships linked via a "Diagram" predicate functional type. You can build a process diagram which displays the flow of assets, showing the journey from a starting point, through a number of steps, to an end point, see Process diagrams.

Navigating diagrams

Each type of diagram includes a Navigator panel, positioned to the bottom-left of the screen, which readily shows you exactly where you are in the overall diagram. This is especially useful on larger diagrams.

Navigation panel

To display the panel, click the button at the bottom-left of the diagram.

Once opened, the panel will display on all diagram types, until you choose to close it, by clicking the X button, positioned in the panel's top right corner.
