  1. From the menu at the top of the screen, select Admin > Environments.
  2. From the list on the left of the page, select the environment to which you want to assign an environment group.
  3. Ensure that the Details tab is selected, then scroll down to the Security section.
  4. To grant access to the selected environment for all members of an environment group, select the environment group from the Environment Groups list. You can select more than one environment group.
Note: By default, all admin users have access to all environments. By selecting an environment group from the Environment Groups list, this also grants access to the environment for all non-admin users who are members of the environment group. However, assigning an environment group to an environment does not automatically give members of the environment group access to the items within the environment. Item-level permission must be assigned separately, see the table below for more details and Delegating rights to data stages.
  5. If you want to create a new environment group, or edit an existing one, click the Manage Environment Groups button. From the Manage Environment Groups dialog, you can select an existing group to add or remove users or groups, or you can click New Group to create a new environment group.
Tip: A user or a group of users can belong to one or multiple environment groups.
There are two aspects to consider when assigning permissions, the first is access to view the environment itself, and the second is access to view the items within the environment. If a user has access to items within an environment, but has not been granted access to the environment itself, access to the items will only be possible via the APIs. The following table describes the different combinations of access levels:
Environment group permission Result

Access to environment

Access to items within the environment

Members of the environment group will be able to access the environment and all items within the environment through both the user interface and the APIs.

Access to environment

No access to items within the environment

Members of the environment group will be able to access the environment, but will not have access to the items within the environment.

No access to the environment

Access to items within the environment

Members of the environment group will be able to access items within the environment via the APIs, but will not have access via the user interface.

No access to the environment

No access to items within the environment

Members of the environment group will not be able to access the environment, or the items within the environment.
Note: After an environment group is assigned to an environment, the environment group must be given a role or set of roles. An environment group's roles determine which elements of the user interface within a given environment the environment group can see. If no role is assigned to an environment group, users in that environment group will only see the home screen.
