Permissions can be set on data collections or on folders within data collections, you cannot set permissions on individual data files.

  1. Click the menu button to the right of the data collection or data collection folder for which you want to set permissions.
  2. Select Edit Permissions.
  3. Set the required permissions in the Edit Permissions dialog.

If the user or group to which you want to assign permissions is not already listed, you can search for additional users or groups in the Add a user or group list. Choose from the following basic permission levels which will apply to the files within the selected data collection or data collection folder:

  • No Access - The user or group cannot open, view or edit the files.
  • Read Only - The user or group can read, download and use the files in a node.
  • Read and Execute - The user or group can read, download and use the files in a node (same as Read Only).
  • Write and Execute - The user or group can read, download, use the file in a node, update, and delete the file.
  • Full Access - The user or group can read, download, use the file in a node, update, and delete the file, and edit the permission level of the data collection.
Advanced permission control
Note: In most cases, you can use the basic permission settings to achieve the desired results. Before using the advanced permission settings, carefully consider whether it is necessary.
To further customize the permission level of a document, click the Advanced tab, then select any combination of the following permissions:
  • Read - The user or group can read the contents of a file. Read permission is required to download the file, and process the file in a data flow, for example reading a .csv file with the CSV/Delimited File node.
  • Read Contents - The user or group can list the contents of a directory. Within the Directory, this allows you to list the details of files within a folder and within a data flow this allows you to use a node to list the details of files in a folder, for example using the Directory List node.
  • Write - The user or group can update the file when it is used in a data flow, for example appending to an Excel file using the Output Excel node.
  • Write Contents - The user or group can create or delete files within the selected directory.
  • Execute - Has no real effect on the use of the file.
  • Edit Permissions - The user or group can edit the permission level of the data collection or the file system folder within the data collection.
