To reduce the memory requirement of a Enterprise Data Movement Model (EDMM), you can create table mappings by reference. This feature makes any existing (sending table to receiving table) mapping in a EDMM “shareable” by other receiving servers.
In addition to the ease of creating table mappings for multiple new receiving servers, the economy of pointing to an existing mapping instead of storing the extra catalog and mapping data in the EDMM means you can reasonably define and use much larger models (scores or hundreds of servers).
You can use a reference mapping to replace or add to the mappings already defined at a receiving server. You can also manually create mappings to other receiving tables at the server as usual, and use other tables at the server in mappings as sending tables.
The feature also includes automatic updating of all reference mappings whenever a referenced mapping is changed. The Connect CDC Director automatically modifies the necessary model items when you create the reference mapping. You do not have to refresh the available tables cache at the receiving server, and you do not have to explicitly select any column mappings.
