Before installing the metabase, you must have already defined a server. The Install Metabase process prompts you for information to connect to your Sybase server and, depending on the status of the metabase that it detects, lets you create the metabase database and objects, or upgrade the metabase objects.

To install the metabase:

  1. Right-click the server and, from the menu that displays, select Install Source Metabase or Install Target-only Metabase, depending on your server’s usage.
  2. In the User ID and Password dialog, enter a password for the system administrator:

  3. Click OK.
  4. In the Create Sybase Database dialog, specify the data and log files/devices in which the metabase database (omnirep) is to be stored. Sybase uses data and log files.

    • Select existing files or devices or enter the name of a new file/device to be created for you.
    • If you specify a new file/device, you must also provide its physical file name (Data Physical Name, Log Physical Name) and size (Data Size, Log Size). If you specify an existing file/device, the name and size boxes are dimmed.
    • Data and log files default to 20 MB. Increase this size if you need.
    • You can specify alternate file paths, if desired.

  5. Click OK.
  6. In the User ID and Password dialog, enter a password for the user rpuser, the owner of the omnirep database, which contains the metabase.

Either the Install Source Metabase or the Install Target Only Metabase dialog displays.

  7. Review the text displayed in the dialog to determine if you need to make any adjustments before you click OK to install the metabase. The text in the dialog indicates the:
    • Current status of the metabase, if any, as detected by the Connect CDC Director
    • Sequence of operations about to be performed
    • ID under which the actions are performed
  8. Click OK to install the metabase, as described in the dialog.

An output window displays a log of the SQL statements sent and any errors that occur. The contents of this window can be printed, saved, or copied.

  9. When the metabase is successfully installed, you see a message like the following:

  10. Click OK.
  11. When complete, you may add databases see Add databases after creating the metabase or go to After the metabase is installed.
