The RSL files that you create can be:

  • Imported into an existing model.

  • Exported from an existing model, modified, and reimported into the same or a different model.

  • Embedded into another application.

An RSL file is a text file containing RSL statements. You must give the extension .rsl to RSL files. You can store your RSL files in the directory of your choice. There are two ways to invoke RSL:

  • By selecting RSL from the File>Import menu in the Connect CDC Director.

  • By issuing a command at the DOS prompt. Execute RSL files.

The Connect CDC Director and RSL are completely compatible. You can create a model in the Connect CDC Director and export it to RSL, or you can create a model using RSL and import it into Connect CDC Director.

The best way to master RSL is to build a base set of model entities (hosts, servers, shared tables) using the Connect CDC Director, export the model into RSL, and use the generated code as an example to build upon.
