On UNIX hosts, the Installer installs a startup script so Connect CDC Listener automatically starts when a host is rebooted. This step is optional and is performed only if a root password is provided to the Installer on a full install. The root password is ignored, if provided, when reconfiguring an installation. See Run the GUI installer for information on how to specify the root password.

Installing a startup script is dependent on the particular type of UNIX. Solaris, HP-UX, Linux, and AIX all have different requirements. If the Installer does not find the init.d and rcX.d directories where it expects to find them, the Connect CDC Listener startup script cannot be installed. A warning message is issued and the rest of the install continues.

Note: As noted in Prerequisites, although a super user is required to install Connect CDC Listener as a startup script, it is best not to install Connect CDC as a super user. If you have installed as a super user and wish to re-install as something else, see Uninstall on UNIX and Linux.
