The IMS Log Capture supports both standard and encrypted OLDS. There are multiple procedures for encrypting the IMS OLDS as described in IBM's documentation. There are three critical requirements
- They must be extended format OLDS.
- They must be preformatted. That can be accomplished using the sample FMTOLDS JCL provided in the distribution.
- The Capture task must be stopped and restarted when a change is made to the OLDS. The Capture can tolerate an IMS cold start, but not a concurrent switch to a new OLDS. Capture runs external to IMS and does not know about the new OLDS after the switch.
Note: IBM provides explicit documentation of the process which may be found by searching for "IMS encrypting OLDS". One result may be found here, https://www.ibm.com/docs/en/ims/15.1.0?topic=ims-encrypting-online-log-data-sets-olds
