The auto-disable feature of the TM EXIT Capture allows critical transactions/programs to continue processing in the event an error occurs during the data capture process. Typically, these errors involved the processing of one or more changed data capture output datastores. In the case of the IMS captures that would be a full z/OS LogStream condition.
If the auto-disable feature is not activated, then the IMS applications will abend with a U3314 code if a LogStream error occurs. When auto-disable is activated, certain event messages are written to the operator’s console and to the program job log indicating that data capture has been disabled for a particular object. This does not mean that the changes are lost, rather that special Connect CDC (SQData) formatted CDC record will be written to the IMS Recovery Log instead of the LogStream. Once the problem has been resolved, a ‘Data Capture Resumed’ message is issued.
It is recommended that you have a contingency plan in place to process changed data in the event that the auto-disable function is triggered. For the IMS TM EXIT Capture there are two options:
- Utilize the Log Reader Data Capture to extract the changed data from the IMS recovery logs for the period of time that the IMS TM EXIT data capture was disabled.
- Perform a full refresh of the target database from the source database.
