Legacy systems are often the lifeblood of a company. Migration to newer technologies can be a slow and painful process particularly with large "homegrown" applications. Sometimes the transition can be accomplished with a one time data conversion, often however the migration plan requires months or even years. Connect CDC (SQData) can address both use cases, sometimes even at the same time. The flexibility of the Apply Engine can transform virtually any source data to any target data structure for a one-time conversion.
One-way migration strategies may require current data from the source platform for an extended period of time while the ongoing conversion of individual applications or subsystems take place. Sometimes it is necessary to capture data from the applications whose migration is complete in order to support other formerly integrated applications still running on the original platform and database. When the source and target applications both utilize relational databases, two way replication can be relatively painless. Migration involving a change in data structure, for example from hierarchical to relational can be accommodated with minimal effort. Even the reverse flow of changes, from the a relational database back to the a legacy hierarchical database can be accomplished but the design of the relational database may require some additional data to facilitate the relational to hierarchical data mapping.
