The Controller Daemon, SQDaemon plays a key role in the authentication process by being the first point of contact for any agent requesting communication with any other agent in both single and multi-platform environments. Controller Daemons are accessed via a TCP/IP interface to an assigned Port on the platform where they are running. Their symbolic name is often synonymous with a specific Host (platform or Environment on which they are running.

Every platform where Capture Agents run requires a Controller Daemon process. The Capture Controller Daemon authenticates incoming connection requests from Engines and Utilities and transfers the opened socket to the requested Capture/Publisher.

While a Controller Daemon is optional on platforms running Engines, Precisely recommends using them to provide for secure local and remote command and control of Engines, Utility and other User agents.

In addition to its role in Secure Communications, the Controller Daemon is also used by the browser based Control Center to inventory the agents running on the platform with the Controller Daemon and then establish communication with those agents to gather statistics and control their operation.
