The Find feature in MapInfo Pro can be used to locate a map object. If, for example, you know the name of a Congressional representative, you can use this feature to locate the representative's district.

To locate a map object in MapInfo Pro:

  1. Click Query > Find.
  2. Select the name of the table to be searched from the Search Table: dropdown.
  3. Select the specific field/column to be searched from the Objects in Column: dropdown.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Type the name of the map object you're searching for in the Find dialog.
  6. Click OK.

MapInfo Pro will draw a symbol at the center of the selected object. If the location is not already in the current screen view, MapInfo Pro will redraw the map with the selected object in the center of the Map window.

You can also type the first few letters of the object name in the Find dialog to display a list of all map objects whose names begin with that particular string.

To see a list of all map objects in the table, type an asterisk ( * ) in the Find dialog and click OK.
