To combine boundaries using MapInfo Pro:

  1. Open the Congressional Districts data product table in a map window.
  2. Click Map > View Entire Layer to ensure all boundaries are in view.
  3. Shift-click to select the boundaries to be combined. Be sure not to select point objects, as they will not combine.
  4. Click Objects > Combine.
  5. Under Data Aggregation, specify the attribute to be aggregated as well as how the associated data will be aggregated –
    1. Blank: Column in new object will be blank
    2. Value: Column will contain the same value as the original object. A new value can be specified using the Edit box.
    3. Sum: Column will contain the sum of the values of the original objects
    4. Average: Column will contain an average of the values of the original objects
    5. Weighted by: When choosing Average, this option allows the selection of a column or boundary area to be used as a weighting factor
    6. No data: No data from the original objects will be brought over
  6. Click OK.

MapInfo Pro will combine the selected boundaries, erase any common boundaries, and display the new boundary. The Info tool can be used to view newly aggregated data. Click File > Save Copy As to save the new boundary and retain the existing product data table.

Refer to MapInfo Pro product documentation for additional information about combining boundaries.
