Colleges provides polygonal boundaries around two- and four-year colleges and universities in the United States. Most colleges with an enrollment greater than 200 students are included. The boundaries reflect both main and satellite campuses.
Buildings or other properties associated with the college or university are included within the boundary only if they are adjacent to, or nearby, the campus. Isolated or sparse buildings that are separate from the main or satellite campus are generally not included as they do not typically represent the areas in which students live or gather.
When separate facilities, such as satellite campuses, have concentrations of student population, an additional polygon record will be created. Some colleges consist of more than one polygon in order to represent multiple or geographically dispersed campuses.
