For license management, a portal connection is required from the Assure UI portal to nodes where Precisely products are installed. The portal requires, at a minimum, one portal connection to either the source or the target node for a product instance.

Note: Note:There are rare exceptions where a portal connection is required to both the source and target servers in order to apply license keys. An example is when Assure MIMIX is newly installed (genesis) and there are not valid license keys on both the source and target nodes, licenses cannot be distributed by MIMIX because the system manager cannot be started. In this case, portal connections must be configured to both nodes and the Add or Update License selected as the Action for the nodes (host systems) from the License Summary window.

For more information, see Implementation considerations for portal connections

MIMIX products limit communication among nodes based on their system role. It is preferred that your instance is configured with a management node as the primary portal connection in the instance domain. This will allow the Assure UI portal to apply license keys to all the nodes with a single action. For example, when you use the Update Instance Licenses wizard, it will update the license keys on all nodes in the Precisely product instance to which the primary portal connection can connect.
