Each user must have a valid user ID and password for the platform on which the Assure UI server is installed. The Assure UI portal authenticates the user ID when the user logs in to the portal. Security for a user ID is dependent on the security on that platform.

The Assure UI portal is shipped with default settings that permit access by all users who have valid credentials for the server platform where the Assure UI server is running. The first time a user logs in, the Assure UI portal automatically creates an Assure UI user profile with authority to access portal interfaces. The default shipped authority level allows access to all of the portal’s portlets, windows, and actions. This may not be desirable. When logged in as Assure UI administrator (vspadmin), you can implement the following security functions within the portal:

  • Control access by requiring that new user profiles be added by the Assure UI administrator before they are allowed to log in. This is done through a policy.

  • Change the default authority level assigned to new user profiles to one that limits access to a pre-determined set of portal actions. This is done through a policy.

  • Prevent a user from logging in to the portal by changing their user profile authority to Exclude.

  • Change what a user can access within the portal by changing the authority assigned in his user profile.

An Assure UI user’s authority level controls only whether they can log in to the Assure UI portal and which portal interfaces they can access after they have logged in. Assure UI authority levels do not limit access to functions provided by the portal applications deployed on the Assure UI server.
