When using the Assure UI portal, it is important that you understand the concepts of portal connection, instance, folder, page, and portlet.
Portal connections define how the Assure UI portal connects to nodes in your enterprise. Each portal connection identifies a connection to a single node. When configuring an instance of a product, you identify the portal connections the instance will use to connect to, retrieve data from, and perform actions for the product.
Instance represents a group of one or more configurations of a Precisely product within your network. The name given to an instance is used within the Assure UI portal in the navigation area, the Instances portlet, and the Enterprise Status portlet. Instances are configured on a per user basis. Users who are owners of a group defined by the Assure UI administrator can share instances with members of the group.
Folder refers to a name listed within the Navigation area on the left side of the portal. For each product instance added to the Assure UI portal, a folder of the same name of the instance is created. The portal ships with these pre-configured folders for each user: Home, and My Folder. Folders contain one or more pages that are displayed as tabs in the content area of the portal.
Portlet refers to a specific function provided by the Assure UI portal or a product’s portal application. Portlets appear on pages in the content area.
