The wizard provides a simple way to download software from the Precisely website and install or upgrade Assure Security version 7.0 software on one or more nodes (IBM Power System or partition) running the IBM i operating system and to automatically obtain and apply license keys for the software being installed.

The wizard is the recommended method of installing and upgrading Assure Security software. The wizard’s executable (.exe) file contains the Assure Security installation wizard as well as software. The installation wizard can be used for any of the following software choices:
  • Assure Security. This choice is the default. It installs or upgrades Assure Security software  and License Manager on the selected nodes. The wizard uses Precisely AutoValidate to obtain and apply the appropriate license keys for your software.
  • License Manager. This installs only License Manager on the selected nodes.

The wizard also supports installing or upgrading Assure Security on more than one node during one run of the wizard. When you specify multiple nodes, the product library name must be the same on all specified nodes, and valid license keys for all nodes are required.

Communication between the PC where the wizard runs and each specified node must be active for the duration of the installation or upgrade process.

Note: If you use the Assure System Access Manager licensed feature, do not use the wizard if your business practices prevent you from having open communications channels that are not monitored by Assure System Access Manager. The wizard requires communications to the selected nodes. Access to the nodes via those communication channels cannot be monitored by Assure System Access Manager while the wizard is installing or upgrading software.

The wizard copies the Assure Security installation stream file to the IFS directory /Lakeviewtech/Upgrades on the nodes you identify within the wizard. Default options in the wizard result in the automatic deletion of the stream file after the install or upgrade completes. You can optionally save the stream file.

When performing an upgrade, default options in the wizard result in automatically saving a copy of the existing product library, secondary library, and License Manager’s library before starting the upgrade and removing the saved files after the upgrade process completes. You can optionally chose to continue without saving these libraries, or to save and keep the libraries. If you choose to save the existing libraries, the save files are placed in a library named MXIWIZnnnn, where nnnn is a unique identifier obtained from a timestamp.
