If you cannot use the installation wizard because of a firewall that prevents PC access to the IBM i node (a system or partition), because the node operates in a restricted state, or because communications or any of the other requirements for using the wizard are not met, you must use 5250 user interface commands to install or upgrade from a stream file (STMF).

The command-based process can install or upgrade one instance of Assure Security on a single node.

The command-based process does not include or retrieve the stream file (STMF) containing the product software. You must manually download the stream file from Support and transfer it to the node or obtain a CD that contains the stream file.

The command-based process installs or upgrades Assure Security and License Manager. You can also select to install only License Manager. The command interface prompts you to provide license keys and provides instructions for how to obtain and apply keys, but it does not engage Precisely AutoValidate to request or receive keys.
Note: When performing a new installation from a stream file when License Manager does not exist on the node, an additional stream file is required to get the INSPRD command on the node to enable the software installation process. These instructions address this requirement. When License Manager already exists on the node, the install or upgrade processing will automatically upgrade License Manager when necessary.

The command-based process does not provide an option to automatically remove the stream file. You must manually address removing the stream file after the install completes.

When performing an upgrade, the command-based process saves a copy of the existing product library as a SAVF within the product library. You do not have the option to have the installation process delete it when processing completes.
