Assure Security delivers regularly scheduled software service packs that include enhancements and updates.
- Assure Security Installation Wizard (.exe)
- Stream file (STMF) installed using commands from the 5250 user interface
Either choice will install or upgrade software for Assure Security and License Manager on a system or partition running the IBM i operating system. Assure Security will be installed or upgraded in the specified library, a secondary library is also created or updated, and the product IFS directory is created if it doesn't already exist. If the IFS directory already exists, it will be reused.
Media differences: The following table summarizes the significant differences between the media choices.
|
- When upgrading, the wizard and the command-based processes do not quiesce activity or end jobs associated with the product library, end the subsystem, or take other actions that may be necessary to prepare for upgrade. You must do these activities. Examples of additional activities that you must do include de-registering programs from exit points, ending jobs on the system that are monitored by Assure System Access Manager, ending other applications or subsystems that use Assure Security software, or ending products that replicate Assure Security objects. Only the installation wizard prompts you when to shut down product activity if it finds locks on Assure Security objects in the product’s subsystem. Both methods for performing upgrades verify whether active product jobs or locks on product objects exist that prevent the upgrade process from running and prevent you from continuing until any active product jobs or locks have been ended. These checks are not a substitute for you ending activity in an appropriate manner.
- Following an install or upgrade, the wizard and the command-based processes do not start the security subsystem, configure, or start activity for the available licensed features.
- The Assure Security Console and other tools that run on a Windows system are not installed by either the wizard or the command-based processes. To install the optional Console and Windows tools, you must use the Assure Security Installation Wizard for Windows to install the Windows components.
