In SAM, it is recommended to first update all active points to auto-start on the source system so they can easily be started on the target system.

VRYQXPNT PNT(*ALL) PNTTYPE(*ALL) STATUS(*SAME) UPDAUTOSTR(*YES)

This command updates points to auto-start. This change can be seen by using option 18 for any point that is active. Option 18 will show the “Start automatically” option for the point.

Another option is to restore the configurations to the target system and then individually turn on the required points by issuing the WRKQXPNT command to view all SAM points, then using option 10 for each point while referencing the source system in another 5250 session.

To save all SAM settings and condition lists, you must first save them to a save file using the SAVQSCFG command.

SAVQXCFG SAVF(LIBRARY/SAVEFILE)

Before restoring configurations on the target system, you must ensure that there are no active points on that system using the VRYQXPNT command.

VRYQXPNT PNT(*ALL) PNTTYPE(*ALL) STATUS(*OFF)

To restore all SAM configurations, and condition lists, transfer the save file to the target system and run the RSTQXCFG command.

RSTQXCFG SAVF(LIBRARY/SAVEFILE) RSTCFG(*UPDADD) RSTLCN(*REPLACE) LCN(*ALL)

Once the configurations and condition lists have been restored, turn on the points. If the VRYQXPNT command was used to update the auto-start settings on the source system, use VRYQXPNT again on the target system to start the points.

VRYQXPNT PNT(*AUTOSTART) STATUS(*ON)

Many SAM points need servers and or services to be restarted for them to take effect. It is recommended that you perform an IPL after running the VRYQXPNT command to stop and restart servers and services on the system. For details on stopping and starting specific exit points, refer to Detailed information on supported exit points under the Assure System Access Manager User Guide.
