MIMIX for FlashCopy does not have any code to perform during the storage flash copy activities. It is assumed that the customer or business partner makes the storage flash copy and performs the IPL for the new system.
Likely, the customer or their storage flash copy automation will take actions similar to the actions listed below. Consult a storage specialist for actual activities. This list is only an indication of activities that may need to be performed:
- Check if sufficient disk space is available, or make space available.
- Quiesce the production system for a few, or even zero, seconds.
- Respond to any quiesce messages.
- Perform the actual storage duplication.
- Respond to any storage duplication messages.
- If all is OK, take down the current target LPAR.
- Release the LPAR's current disk set into the free disk pool, or possibly keep it for later use.
- Assign the newly duplicated disk set to the LPAR.
- IPL the LPAR into restricted mode.
- Assign the LPAR a non-production IP address (likely the same one that it had before).
- Optionally save the partition to tape or virtual tape.
- Take (start) the LPAR out of restricted mode.
