The term clone refers to the configured environment for a single flash copy and its associated MIMIX instance.

Before installing MIMIX, request that the first flash copy target be created and that it has a functioning IP address. This will provide a normal pair of systems on which to install and configure MIMIX.

MIMIX installation names: An instance name is the name of the library in which MIMIX software is installed; this name is the same on all systems included in an instance. On a given system, each MIMIX instance must have a unique name. If your FlashCopy environment will have multiple targets, the source system will have multiple MIMIX instances. Because of this, planning your instance names in advance can avoid potential problems when you install MIMIX software. The default instance name defaults to MIMIX. Although the instance name can be a maximum of 10 characters, we strongly recommend that you limit instance names to 7 characters or fewer in length. This allows system manager remote journal target library names to be unique.

You may find it easier to use fewer characters for the instance name and include an identifier for the clone. For example:

Clone number or designation

ID

MIMIX Installation Library

CLONE01 (main 20h00 point in time clone)

01

MIMIX01

CLONE02 (additional 08h00 point in time clone)

02

MIMIX02

IP addresses and ports: MIMIX identifies the IP address and ports used for internal communications within transfer definitions. The MIMIX command STRSVR uses the identified port to start TCP servers.

MIMIX Installation Library

SRC Node /MIMIX *MGT nodeIP Address

TGT Node /MIMIX *NET nodeIP Address

TCP Port

MIMIX01

xx.xx.xx.xx

xx.xx.xx.yy

50010

MIMIX02

xx.xx.xx.xx

xx.xx.xx.zz

50020

MIMIX sometimes add ports, so 50010 means the firewall may see 50010~50019. In the example above, clone 01 gets ports 5001x, clone 02 gets ports 5002x, and so on.
