The Copy Active File (CPYACTF) command is similar to the IBM command Copy File (CPYF).

The CPYACTF command supports the same *MAP and *DROP conversions between data types for record format field mapping. The *MAP/*DROP support is ideal for most cases and is capable of handling most common data conversions including field extensions, field truncation, and data conversions. Customers that require data conversions not handled by the CPYACTF command can use its data exit support to provide customized data mapping in either a data exit program or a data service program.

To copy all members of a file to another file at once, the CPYACTF command must have *ALL specified for the From member (FROMMBR) parameter and *FROMMBR specified for the To member (TOMBR) parameter. The CPYACTF command will add the members to the to-file if they do not exist. If the members exist in the to-file, the CPYACTF command will copy the data into the existing members.

The CPYACTF command does not support:
  •  Any record selection options. All records in a member will be copied during a CPYACTF operation.

  •  Special source file options such as line re-sequencing.

The CPYACTF command must copy single members to single members and does not support copying multiple members into a single member.
