The Work with Data Resource Group Entries display lists the data resource groups associated with an application group. Each entry identifies a data resource group, the how the data is protected, and status of the resource group, node, and replication.

Figure 3. The Work with Data Resource Group Entries display.

A Virtual switch status field can appear below the Application group field when a virtual switch is in progress for the application group (*NONCLU only). The field identifies the phase of virtual switch activity.

Check the following columns for the following status values which indicate a problem. For a complete list of status values for each field and column, press F1 (Help).

Resource Group Status - This column identifies the status of the data resource group.

Resource Group Status values that require attention.

Status Value

Description and Action

*ATTN

The CRG object is locked and that status cannot be retrieved. Wait for the CRG exit program to complete.

*INACTIVE

The resource group is inactive. If this status appears only in the Resource Group Status column, use option 9 (Start) to restart all data resource groups associated with the application group.

*INDOUBT

The current status of the resource group is not fully known to Cluster Services.

Use option 9 (Start) to restart the data resource group. Then press F5 (Refresh). If the status does not change, contact Support.

Node Status - This column identifies the status of the nodes for the data resource group.

Node Status values that require user action

Status Value

Description and Action

*ATTN

One of the following occurred:

  • At least one of the nodes in the recovery domain for the resource group does not have the same status as the other nodes.

  • Only one node is currently defined in the resource group recovery domain.

  • The node roles in the recovery domain for the data resource group do not match the node roles in the recovery domain for the application group.

To check the current node roles and sequence for the application resource group, use option 12 (Node entries) from the Work with Application Groups display. To check the current node roles and sequence for the data resource group, use option 12 (Node entries) from the Work with Data Rsc. Grp. Ent. display. Correct the problem with the node sequence in the data resource group. For additional information, use Verifying the sequence of the recovery domain and Changing the sequence of backup nodes.

Replication Status - The value in this column is a summary status of data replication activity for the data resource group. The direction of replication is also checked and included in replication status. Data replication may be performed by MIMIX data groups, by an IBM i cluster administrative domain, or by a form of hardware level mirroring according to the type of the data resource group entry. If data replication is based on MIMIX data groups, this status includes the status of all data group processes, replication direction, replicated object and file entries, audits, and recoveries.

Figure 15 identifies status values for replication that require user action.

One or more of the following problems exist for data groups within the data resource group.

  • The source system of an active data group is not the primary node of its data resource group (*CLU application groups) or of its application group (*NONCLU application groups).

  • A data group has a failed state, an error condition, audit errors, or pending recoveries.

  • A data group has an inactive process during a virtual switch (*NONCLU application groups)

  • A data group has a status that does not match the status of its data resource group.

To prevent damage to data in your environment, it is important that you begin by determining which system should be the source for the data groups. Do the following:

  1. From this display, use option 8 (Data groups) to check which system is the current source for the data group.

  2. Determine which node has the role of current primary for the data resource group. From this display use option 12 (Node entries). then check the current node role.

  3. Determine which node has the role of current primary for the application group. From the Work with Application Groups display, use option 12 (Node entries), then check the current node role.

If the current primary node is correct and a data group with an incorrect source system is active, end the data group and contact Support.

If the data groups in question have the correct source system but the primary node for the resource group is not correct, you need to change the recovery domain for the data resource group (*CLU application group) or application resource group (*NONCLU application group) to make the correct node become primary. Use Changing the sequence of backup nodes.

After you have ensured that the data groups have the correct source system, resolve any error conditions reported on the Work with Data Groups display.

If the data group status does not match the status of the resource group and the data group should be active, either restart the data group or the resource group.

Note: Not all data groups should necessarily be active. Only the data groups currently being used for data replication should be active. You will need to look at the current node roles and data providers for the node entries to determine which data groups should be active.

For more information about working with data group status, replication errors, audit errors, and recoveries, refer to the Assure MIMIX Operations - 5250 book.

*ATTN_PPRC

An error condition has been detected within the PPRC replication environment. To determine its cause, use the Work with Message Log (WRKMSGLOG) command to locate message LVEC091, which lists the message received from the storage management console. Correct the problem with the hardware environment.

*AUTHORITY

An authority error has been detected when attempting to retrieve the PPRC replication status. To determine its cause, use the Work with  Message Log (WRKMSGLOG) command to locate message LVEC091, which lists the message received from the storage management console.  Correct the problem with the storage management authority.

*INACTIVE

All replication in the data resource group is inactive. This may be normal if replication was ended to perform certain activities. Use option 8 (Data groups) to access the Work with Data Groups display.

*STGMGTSVR

The PPRC status could not be retrieved because an error occurred while attempting to contact the storage management console server.

*SUSPENDED

At least one LUN volume pair defined to the storage unit device has had PPRC replication suspended and is no longer active.

Check the value shown in the Resource Group Status column. If the Resource Group Status is *INACTIVE, use option 9 (Start) to start the data resource group.  If the Resource Group Status is *ACTIVE, the PPRC replication must be resumed from the storage management console server.
