When a MIMIX instance is upgraded from an earlier software level to MIMIX 8.1.12.00 or higher, you may receive notifications whose source is “INSTALL”. These notifications are sent because the upgrade process detected at least one data group IFS entry within the configuration that has one or more asterisk (*) characters specified in positions other than the last (trailing) character of the specified name. The names in these IFS entries are considered advanced generic names.
To check for notifications about advanced generic names in IFS entries and locate the affected IFS entries:
Do one of the following:
On the Work with Application Groups display, the Notifications field indicates whether any warning notifications exist. Press F15 (Notifications).
On the Work with Data Groups display, the third number in the Audits/Recov./Notif. field displays the number of new notifications. Press F8 (Recoveries), then press F10 (Work with Notifications).
From a command line, enter:
WRKNFY
.
The Work with Notifications display appears. Notifications about advanced generic names are identified by the name INSTALL in the Source column.
Press
F11
(View Timestamp) to see the name of the affected data group. From the command line, specify the data group in the following command:
WRKDGIFSE DGDFN(name system1 system2)
On the Work with DG IFS Entries display, check for entries that display either *INCLD(A) or *EXCLD(A) in the Process Type column.
These entries have embedded asterisks and are considered advanced generic names, which are important because:
An advanced generic name in an *INCLD IFS entry will have any asterisk characters embedded within the name interpreted as literal characters, not wildcard characters. These entries cannot be changed or copied. They should be evaluated, and if possible removed to avoid confusion with how asterisks are interpreted.
An advanced generic name in an *EXCLD IFS entry will be processed differently after upgrading to 8.1.12.00 or higher. Asterisks embedded within its name are processed as wildcard characters which act as a filter to exclude objects that would otherwise be included by an existing entry with a basic generic name.
For more information about advanced generic names, see the topic “Identifying IFS objects for replication” in the Assure MIMIX Administrator Reference book.
