Problems with journaling can cause the name of a data group to be highlighted on the Work with Data Groups display. If the cause of the problem is a journal status (JRN1STS or JRN2STS) value of *DIFFJRN, the journal being used is different than the configured journal in the data group definition. In this case, you should investigate the reason for using the current journal and determine whether journaling can be changed to use the configured journal. It may be necessary to involve your administrator in making this determination. Consider the following:
If the journal status is *DIFFJRN on the source system, determine the following:
Does the object need to be replicated?
If yes, does the object need to be journaled to the current journal because of an application requirement? If yes, do one of the following:
Reconfigure the object to an existing data group which uses the current journal for replication.
Configure a new data group to use the current journal and change the configuration of the object to be replicated by that data group.
If the journal status is *DIFFJRN on the target system for a switchable data group, ensure it is correctly journaled before switching.
To check the journaling status and specify the journal to use, do the following:
From the Work with Data Groups display, use option 8 (Display status).
Check the journaling status for objects with problems:
For files, use option
17
(File entries) for the data group. Then press F10 (journaled view) to see journaling status. For IFS tracking entries, use option
50
(IFS tracking entries) for the data group. Then press F10 (journaled view) to see journaling status. For object tracking entries, use option
52
(object tracking entries) for the data group. Then press F10 (journaled view) to see journaling status.
From the journaled view, locate the items with a Journal status (JRN1STS or JRN2STS) value of *DIFFJRN.
Use option
9
(Start journaling) to view the appropriate Start Journaling display.Press F10 (Additional parameters) to display the Force to configured journal (FORCE) prompt.
Change the FORCE prompt to *YES to end journaling to a journal that is different than the configured journal and start journaling using the configured journal. This value will also attempt to start journaling for objects not currently journaled. Journaling will not be ended for objects already journaled to the configured journal.
Press Enter to start journaling.
Press F5 (Refresh) to update and view the current journaling status.
