MIMIX uses the journal entries added to a user journal receiver to identify changes to database files and other journaled objects that have been defined to MIMIX as eligible for replication.

Default configuration values for new data groups use the IBM i remote journal function as an integral part of the database replication path. MIMIX Remote Journal support enables MIMIX to take advantage of the cross-journal communications capabilities provided by the IBM i remote journal function instead of using internal communications. Other configuration options that use older, internal communications within the database replication path are described later in this chapter.

The data group configuration determines how MIMIX identifies the journal entries to replicate. Default values in the data group require that you identify user-journal-capable objects within data group file entries, object tracking entries, and IFS tracking entries, A data group can optionally use a journal-centric configuration to identify object types that can be journaled and automatically creates an internal table to identify the objects that are journaled to the user journal identified in the data group. Only the method of configuring objects differs when journal-centric configuration is used. For more information, see Journal-centric configuration for user journal replication.
