Journal caching is only available if the separate, chargeable feature from IBM (Option 42) is available on the system. If you have this feature, you can enable the system to cache journal entries in main storage before writing them to disk. To enable journal caching in an existing environment, do the following:

  1. From the Work with Journal Definitions display, use option 2 (Change) to access the journal definition you want.

  2. Specify one of the following values for the JRNCACHE prompt and press Enter:

    • Specify *BOTH to enable journal caching for both the source and target journals.

    • Specify *TGT to enable journal caching for the target journal only.

    • Specify *SRC to enable journal caching for the source journal only.

  3. In order for the changes to be effective, you must build the journaling environment using the updated journal definition. Do the following:

    1. Type 14 (Build) next to the definition you just modified on the Work with Journal Definitions display and press F4 (Prompt).
    2. The Build Journaling Environment (BLDJRNENV) panel is displayed. Specify *JRNDFN for the Source for values (JRNVAL) parameter and press Enter.
