You can select objects to compare by using a data group, the object selection parameters, or both. The compare attributes commands do not require active data groups to run.

  • By data group only: If you specify only by data group, all of the objects of the same class as the command that are within the name space configured for the data group are compared. For example, specifying a data group on the CMPIFSA command would compare all IFS objects in the name space created by data group IFS entries associated with the data group.

  • By object selection parameters only: You can compare objects that are not replicated by a data group. By specifying *NONE for the data group and specifying objects on the object selection parameters, you define a name space—the library for CMPFILA or CMPOBJA, or the directory path for CMPIFSA or CMPDLOA. Detailed information about object selection is available in Object selection for Compare and Synchronize commands.

  • By data group and object selection parameters: When you specify a data group name as well as values on the object selection parameters, the values specified in object selection parameters act as a filter for the items defined to the data group.
