To access the Journal Operations dialog:

  1. Right-click a DB2/400 sending or receiving table, then select Journal Operations to display the Journal Operations dialog.

The dialog lists the sending and receiving tables at the server and the Journaling status of each See Journal Status.

The list is not refreshed automatically. Click Refresh list to refresh the list. See Refresh List. Refresh List .

  2. Select one of the following to specify the journal operation you are performing

    • Select Begin Journaling to assign one or more tables to an existing journal. The table(s) are journaled with before-images as well as with after-images using the IBM i STRJRNPF command.

    • Select End Journaling to remove one or more tables from their currently assigned journal(s). The IBM i ENDJRNPF command removes the journaling.

  3. Click Refresh list to retrieve a list of the journals defined and available at this server.

  4. From the tables listed in the Table column, select the tables for which you are beginning or ending journaling. See Journaled and Non-Journaled DB2/400 Tables.

    • Use the Shift and Ctrl keys to select multiple tables.

    • Click a column heading to sort the list by the selected column.

Note: You must eventually assign all tables to a journal whose Type is *BOTH.
  5. In Select a journal for the selected tables, enter or select the name of the journal to which you are assigning, or from which you are removing, the tables selected in step 4. If the list is empty or not current, click Refresh list.

Note: Do not enter the name of a journal that does not exist. Do not enter or select the journal to which your metabase is assigned.
  6. Do one of the following:

  • Click OK to perform the requested operation and close the dialog.

  • Click Apply to perform the requested operation without closing the dialog.

  • Click Cancel to close the dialog.

Note: A refresh on a journal list can fail on a AS/400 V7R1 server if the list had been previously created on V6 or V5. This error displays when you click Refresh list on the Journal Operations dialog or on the Process Definition Properties dialog. This is because IBM changed the internal system record format (made it longer) that is used to write records to a file with the “outflow” format. This error occurs when you have a metabase on a release previous to V7R1, where the DSPOBJD file still exists with the older, shorter format. The workaround is to remove the DSPOBJD (older) file and then refresh the journal list. This error only occurs if a DSPOBJD file still exists from a prior version. In addition, you only need to manually delete the DSPOBJD file one time.
